According to Memphis Commercial Appeal, Memphis Grizzlies power forward Zach Randolph has sustained a torn knee ligament and will miss up to eight weeks.
Randolph reportedly had an MRI, which revealed a partially torn ligament in his right knee. The injury is not expected to require surgery, and Randolph will be re-evaluated in a couple of weeks.
Paired with Darrell Arthur succumbing to an achilles injury, Randolph’s absence leaves a huge hole in the Grizzlies’ inside game, with Marreese Speights, Leon Powe, and Dante Cunningham attempting to fill-in.
This is one of those devastating injuries that makes you quit on your fantasy basketball season and try your hand at fantasy basketball games. (Sign up at BuzzDraft.com and you can start playing for free.)
Powe and Cunningham are scrubs that won’t offer much fantasy value, while Speights has nice size and strength, and could be someone to watch if he gets a lot of run. More than anything, Randolph’s absence means Rudy Gay will have to shoulder more of the scoring load, while Marc Gasol should also shoot the rock more than usual.
