NBA NBA Picks — 27 January 2012
Friday NBA Predictions | Picks and Analysis

We split the two games yesterday in our Daily NBA Picks, and if it wasn’t for the Orlando Magic’s meltdown in the 2nd half against Boston, we could have been 2-0. With that being said, I now stand at 112-61 on the season.

There are 13 games on tap for Friday’s action in the NBA, with the marque match-up of the night being when the New York Knicks travel to Miami to take on the Heat. Check out our game preview for this game tonight at 8pm est.

Lets get started, as there are a lot of games to break down, here are our NBA Predictions for Friday night:

PHILADELPHIA (12-6) over Charlotte (3-16)

Philadelphia is 8-2 in the last ten games when playing at home against Charlotte, they are also 8-2 at home this season. Philly takes care of business tonight and wins by 30 plus.

Indiana (12-5) over BOSTON (8-9)

The Pacers are one of the better young teams in the NBA this season, and they have been playing well on the road (5-4), which is the polar opposite of how normal young teams play. With Rajon Rondo and Ray Allen out last night, Paul Piece carried the load on offense, while dropping 24 points on the Magic. I’ll take the Pacers in a close game.

CLEVELAND (7-10) over New Jersey (6-13)

These two teams met earlier in the season in Cleveland, with the Cavs getting the win 98-82. Cleveland has won 10 of the last 13 games against the Nets and should make it 11 of 14 after tonight.

Atlanta (13-6) over DETROIT (4-15)

I went back and forth on this game, mainly because Atlanta is very pedestrian on the road (5-5), and the Pistons have played a lot better in their past two home game, with a victory over Portland and a close loss to Miami. Ultimately I picked the Hawks, but I do think it’ll be a close game that comes down to the wire.

HOUSTON (10-8) over Washington (3-15)

Houston got off to a rough start in the early parts of the season with a 2-6 record, but they have rebounded nicely after winning eight of the past ten games. The Wizards are bad and Houston is at home where they are 7-2, give me Houston.

Orlando (12-6) over NEW ORLEANS (3-15)

If Dwight Howard was not on the Magic, they might be the worst team in the NBA. They have no bench and lack a sense of urgency. They’ve also struggled against defensive minded teams all season (Boston, and Chicago), while only scoring 83 points per game in the past five contests. However, New Orleans isn’t very good and Orlando needs a win on the road to build their confidence back up.

CHICAGO (16-4) over Milwaukee (7-10)

Chicago owns the best record in the Eastern Conference even with Derrick Rose missing five games this season. Chicago is deep and they have the best defense in the NBA, as they’ve only allowed 86 points per game, tops in the NBA.

MINNESOTA (8-10) over San Antonio (12-7)

San Antonio has struggled on the road this season (2-6), with one of those losses coming at the hands of the Timberwolves earlier this season, which snapped a 16 game losing streak at home against the Spurs. Make in two in a row tonight, as the T-Wolves win in a close game.

MIAMI (13-5) over New York (7-11)

Dwayne Wade (ankle) will be a game-time decision once again, while Carmelo Anthony (wrist, ankle) will be out for tonight’s game. Miami has won seven of the past nine games against the Knicks, together with Anthony being out, it could make for a long night for New York.

Utah (10-6) over DALLAS (11-8)

There are reports out of Dallas that Dirk Nowitzki could miss more than the four scheduled games they planned to sit him, as well as reports saying that they could alos sit Lamar Odom a few games. I’ll take the upset team tonight, in the Utah Jazz.

DENVER (13-5) over Toronto (6-13)

Toronto is riding a two game winning streak, but they will be without leading scorer Andrea Bargnani after he suffered a calf injury in Wednesdays win over Utah. Toronto won’t be able to keep up with the best team in the NBA in points per game without their leading scorer. Denver wins by 25 plus.

PORTLAND (11-8) over Phoenix (6-11)

After the Trail Blazers got out to a fast start with a 7-2 record, they’ve gone on to lose 6 out of their last 10 games. LaMarcus Aldridge is having a career year thus far, as he is averaging a career high 22.5 points per game and 9 rebounds per game.

GOLDEN STATE (6-11) over Oklahoma City (15-3)

The Warriors have won 11 of the past 15 games at home against the Thunder, furthermore last season, in three match-ups, Russell Westbrook went 14-45 from field (31%). It’s my upset pick of the day, as I like the Dubs to take down the Thunder at home.
