Phoenix Suns point guard Steve Nash is nearing the end of his career at the age of 38. Still, despite his advanced age, he’s still a top-10 point guard in the NBA, and a difference-maker that could help a team closing in on an NBA championship get over the hump.
Or he could just go be a superstar in Canada for the rest of his career. According to the Toronto Sun, that’s exactly what could happen, as Nash to Toronto rumors are heating up.
The move could make sense for Nash, as Toronto would be able to pay him a hefty chunk of change, he’d easily start over Jose Calderon and Jerryd Bayless, and he’d get to play and be a superstar in his home country.
Unfortunately, the Raptors are nowhere close to competing for a championship, and even with Nash leading the offense, may not even be a playoff caliber team at the moment.
That glaring fact should keep Nash from making a bold decision anytime soon, and also keeps the door open for championship contenders like the Miami Heat, Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks. The New York Knicks and soon to be Brooklyn Nets could also be in the mix.
If Deron Williams stiffs Dallas as stays with the Nets, a reunion with the Mavericks could suddenly look like a match made in heaven.
