NBA Draft Power Forwards Scouting Reports — 14 April 2011
2011 NBA Draft Player Profile | Donatas Motiejunas

Drafted by Houston Rockets

In a draft class where big men are hard to come by, Donatas Motiejunas could be looking at going in the top five picks if everything falls into place.

Made in the mold of other great Euro players before him like Dirk Nowitzki and Andrea Bargnani, many scouts and draft experts are salivating at the possibility Motiejunas’ big frame and fluidity on the court bring. He’s not nearly as developed as Nowitzki was when he entered the league, but the tools and potential remains there for the picking.

NBA Position: Power Forward

Height: 7’0”

Weight: 224 lbs.

School: Lithuania

Stats

Strengths

A big, finesse lefty with tons of potential. A very fluid player, especially given his outstanding size, who has great versatility and athleticism for a big man. Has shown the desire to play outside, but also has the toughness to bang inside when necessary. Has a terrific and consistent with good range. Has a reliable inside game to pair with his outside touch, and does a solid job of keeping his defender guessing. Good shot blocker. Pretty complete player offensively; just needs to work on consistency.

Weaknesses

Needs to get bigger (bulk up), and a little stronger. Looks too thin to handle the rigors of the post at the next level, although his strength is solid. Doesn’t always play to his own ability. Needs to develop that killer instinct and realize just how dominant he can be. Not an elite rebounder, especially for his size. Has shown brilliance in flashes, but is not as experienced as you’d like. A capable defender, but still needs work. Overall still a raw prospect, but he’s not far away from realizing his potential.

NBA Player Comparison: Andrea Bargnani

Draft Projection: Top 10
