A relative unknown prior to a break-out performance in the 2011 Nike Hoop Summit game, Bismack Biyombo has catapulted his draft stock into what appears to be the lottery, while near-guaranteeing himself a first-round selection.
NBA Position: F/C
Height: 6’9”
Weight: 243 lbs
School: Congo
Strengths
A defensive terror with good size and strength inside. A tremendous shot-blocker with great timing and awareness on the defensive end. This kid was built to roam the middle of the paint. Can completely alter shots and lock down the inside with his tenacity and imposing presence. Has an excellent wing span (7’7”) and is very fluid in the open floor. Extremely fast and quick for his size and position. Has a great work ethic and attitude, and plays hard on every play. Doesn’t have an offensive game to speak of, but his elite defense gives him a foot in the door to make an immediate impact at the next level. If he’s really just 18, he’s got tons of time and room to grow.
Weaknesses
Extremely raw on the offensive end with no go-to moves. Really hurting in the fundamentals department. His awareness on the offensive end is not where it needs to be. Doesn’t have a good jumper. Clearly relies heavily on his athleticism and physical ability overall. Has not gone up against elite competition, while some speculate that he’s actually older than listed.
NBA Player Comparison: Dikembe Mutumbo (shorter, no offensive game)
Draft Projection: Lottery
